What is Freemasonry?
Photo of members of Lodge Southern Cross on May 29, 1936, on the Lodge's 30th anniversary.
FREEMASONRY means different things for each person who becomes an initiate, but vaguely Freemasonry is an international society and fraternity having as its principles brotherliness, charity, and mutual aid.
By definition, Freemasonry is a fraternal organization, religious in character, based on the principle of the Fatherhood of God and the Brotherhood of Man which does charitable work in the community and among its members and through its teachings and ceremonies seeks to make good men better and thereby make the world a better place in which to live.
Freemasonry is a "voluntary" association in that no one is ever invited to become a member.
